Come and Get Em

The Texas Native Plants at the Plant Bat Habitat are multiplying! The plants on this list either produce volunteers, or seed readily, or we just happen to have extras to share. Check the plant pages for more details.

If there is a plant at the Habitat that you’re interested in, but you don’t see it on this list, please reach out. We may be able to grow it for you from cuttings.

The best time to transplant or throw seeds out is in the fall because

  • it allows plants time to establish roots before they have to deal with our hot summers.
  • some of our wildflowers need a cold period to grow and bloom well. See this post for more details.

Even the most drought resistant plant will need help establishing after it is transplanted. Water regularly for the first two weeks, and then taper off watering to a level that’s appropriate to the plant. It can take up to three years for the plant to develop the deep roots it needs to survive our hot summers and drought seasons.
