Iconic Texas Wildflowers
Jump to ListThe beautiful, wonderful wildflowers at the Plant Bat Habitat burst into vibrant color every spring in March or April, and persist into the summer. They come in three waves, the first dominated by Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush, the second by Firewheel, and the third by Black-eyed Susans and Lemon Mint. Primroses, Winecups, Prairie Verbena and Greenthread delight for months with their long bloom periods. The tall Standing Cypress, with its attendant hummingbirds, stands out for its striking red flower clusters. Our particular pride and joy is the breathtaking Texas Bluebell, Lady Bird Johnson’s favorite, and now unfortunately rare in the wild.

Grow Your Own
With time and patience, you can successfully grow your very own patch of Iconic Texas Wildflowers. Most of our wildflowers need full sun for best results, but there are great options for part shade or dappled shade as well. Once established, they sustain themselves year after year, needing very little care or intervention. See this post for more details.
